Never have the time to properly squeegee your shower door after each use? Do you have those stubborn hard water stains throughout your bathroom that just wont go away? Below is a simple yet effective way to remove those stains without the hassle of any harsh chemicals or cleaning products.

Step 1) Think acid. Anything with acidity can help clear away hard water stains on any surface.

Step 2) Use pure white vinegar in a spray bottle to work on hard water stains on glass doors. Many people use vinegar to clean coffee makers, dishwashers and garbage disposals. After the stains dissipate, follow up often with white vinegar to keep the stains from coming back.

 Step 3) Scrub with a lemon. Cut a lemon in half and rub it directly on the stain. The acidity should cut through the soap scum and hard water.

If the stain is still showing through  STRENGTHEN YOUR CLEANING POWER!

Step 4) Try a paste of white vinegar and baking soda on soap scum stains created by hard water. Let the paste sit on the stain for a while before rinsing thoroughly with water.

Step 5) To avoid the stains completely make sure your water softener is in working order and you wipe the surfaces dry after each use. According to the Virginia Cooperative Extension, roughly 85 percent of homes in the United States depend on a hard water supply. Hard water is any water supply that contains excess minerals or metals, such as calcium and iron. Although hard water is generally safe to use, it can cause a variety of problems related to cleaning and appliance use. Water softeners remove or dilute the mineral concentrations in hard water and offer several benefits to homeowners. I will touch up on the benefits of water softeners at a later date. Stay tuned.

• Never clean with bleach- and ammonia-based products at the same time.
• Lemons can also remove rust stains on tile from hairpins.
