Top 3 Master Bedroom Remodel Trends
As summer cools down and the kids head back to school, many homeowners are starting to focus on sprucing up their indoor spaces, particularly their master bedrooms. According to the latest Zillow Digs Home Design Trend Report, the top bedroom design style for fall 2014 is industrial chic.
Say goodbye to matching bedroom sets, bold colors and patterns, wall-to-wall carpeting and polished wood furniture. Today’s homeowners are drawn toward eclectic and unique design elements that bring both character and warmth to their bedrooms. Known for its mixed textures and soft colors, industrial chic is the perfect style for those wanting a relaxing, yet tasteful bedroom oasis.
Dreaming of a master bedroom remodel? Check out the top three biggest industrial chic design trends this season below:
Trend 1: Raw or reclaimed wood
From headboards to nightstands, raw wood elements are all the rage this season. “Pine and natural wood tones are especially popular in master bedrooms,” says Zillow Digs Board of Designers member Vanessa Deleon of Vanessa Deleon Associates in New York City. “They bring a rustic charm that makes the space feel both relaxing and approachable.”
Trend 2: Modern statement lighting
According to Zillow Digs design expert Melissa Klebanoff of Melissa Klebanoff Interior Design in Seattle, “fabulous overhead lighting fixtures are playing an important role in master bedrooms this season.” Expect to see dramatic lighting fixtures with nickel or brass finishes for an industrial, modern flair.
Trend 3: Neutrals
Warm neutrals, particularly in shades of gray are “a fan favorite,” says Kerrie Kelly of Kerrie Kelly Design Lab in Sacramento. Neutral colors are not “distracting to the eye, and they provide a great backdrop for fabrics and accents, while offering a clean simplicity that the mind craves at the end of a long day,” Kelly says.
